Frequently asked questions

What is an ISO week number?

ISO 8601 numbers the weeks of a year, starting with the week that contains the year's first Thursday. Weeks run from Monday to Sunday.

Why is the week number useful in shipping?

Loading and sailing plans are often expressed by week number. The tool tells you which week a date falls in.

Can a date near New Year belong to another year's week?

Yes. Under ISO 8601 the first days of January can belong to the last week of the previous year, and the last days of December to week 1 of the next. The result shows the year of the week.
