Vessel Tracking

To track a vessel, enter its IMO or MMSI number and its position appears on this page. Live positions come from AIS (Automatic Identification System) signals that ships broadcast. BoldProject can also tell you the status of your own shipment.

Enter an IMO (7 digits) or MMSI (9 digits) number. You can find it on your booking confirmation or bill of lading.

How to track a vessel

Find the vessel name or its IMO number on your booking confirmation or bill of lading, enter the IMO number in the box above and read the latest reported position on the map.

What is AIS?

AIS (Automatic Identification System) is the system ships use to broadcast their identity, position, course and speed. Tracking sites collect these signals. Where no receiving station is nearby, a position can be delayed or missing, so treat it as indicative.

Ask us about your shipment

If your cargo is moving with BoldProject, you do not need to track it yourself. Write to us with your booking or bill of lading number and we will tell you where your shipment is.

Frequently asked questions

How do I track a ship?

Enter the ship's IMO or MMSI number in the box on this page. The map shows the latest position reported through AIS.

What is an IMO number?

A unique seven-digit identification number assigned to a ship. It stays the same for the whole life of the ship, even if the name changes.

What is an MMSI?

A nine-digit identification number of a ship's radio equipment, transmitted in AIS messages.

Are vessel positions exact?

They are indicative. Delays or gaps can occur depending on signal coverage, and positions come from third-party sources.
